Are you up for a Dirty Weekend on Tropical Magnetic Island ?
8km off the coast of the Tropical North Queensland coast lays Magnetic Island, an Island normally known as an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The Island plays host to horse riding tours, Jet Ski tours and of course resort and beach activities but for the weekend of the 23rd & 24th March 2013 it will play host to the toughest Multisport Adventure in Queensland taking participants through parts of the island normally off limits to mountain bikes and rarely seen by many at all.

The fastest individual Magnetic Island Ultra course time was posted by Jarad Kohlar an individual competitor from Melbourne.Jarad posted 5 hrs 34mins smashing the previous record set by Sam Stedman in the 2011 event of 6 hrs 37 minutes and 36 seconds. The Challenge is on to beat that record and a cash prize awaits the first individual to complete the Magnetic Island Ultra Adventurethon.
As one of 5 events on offer over the weekend The Ultra Adventurethon Caters for the top end endurance athlete across the sports of paddling, mountain biking and trail running as well as the mentally tough social athlete that loves a personal challenge to learn about what they can muster when the gauntlet has been thrown down. However Adventurethon’s inclusive Festival layout, allows athletes to pick and choose how much of the course they tackle.

Examples of the layout include The Dirty Endurance Duathlon perfect choice for the Non paddler or Triathlete wanting a mentally tough challenge without the paddle leg. There is a Shortened Adventurethon course (the Enduro Adventurethon) with the main difference approximately half the distance of paddle, a small decrease in bike and approx half distance of the run. There are also Junior and enticer level events which will be finished in between 50 – 90 minutes at a moderate level of fitness.
The Great thing about the multisport challenges is that new -comers can tackle one leg of the race that they are comfortable with and share their weaker legs as part of a team.
Any athlete that chooses an endurance option at the festival will be guaranteed a physically challenging Mountain bike adventure, Breathtaking Trail runs in more ways than one and a spectacular paddle along the Scenic coastline of Magnetic Island.
A word of caution for the Ultra Adventurethon athletes, don’t count on looking at the kilometres to estimate your time of completion, you may not be able to keep up pace through the hike n bike section and trail climbs. (The Ultra Adventurethon Course record holder was approximately 1hr: slower on this course than on the flatter national challenge course in July)
