Volunteer Spotlight – Julie Underwood
We all know that any great event can’t work without the support of great people. And on this National Volunteers Week we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge how much we appreciate each and every person who volunteers for us. Every volunteer makes a difference to the competitors on the day, with a friendly smile, or helping keep them on track and safe and so much more.
Volunteer Spotlight – Julie Underwood

What’s not to love about Maggie – its where I live. Paradise
Adventurethon Magnetic Island is a stunning place to volunteer, with great ocean views, spectacular walking tracks and is warm all year round. Julie is always smiling and around to lend a hand at volunteering on the island (even roping in her neighbour to get involved). Any task is no hassle, from cable tying to pointing athletes in the right direction, do running signs out along the course.
For fun you will find Julie keeping active especially at boot camp, boating fishing and wining and dining with mates.
She has been a volunteer at Adventurethon Magnetic Island since she moved there in 2012, as well as volunteering on the Maggie leg of two Townsville Adventurethons.
Julie says, “I like to support fitness anywhere it happens. I think the Adventurethon showcases the island really well. If we are going to attract a culture of people to our area – I think people that love the outdoors and exercise are the type we need.”
We asked if she had any expectations about volunteering for Adventurethon. She said, “I expected to be valued and I was I probably didn’t think it would be such a big job – but it was !!! That’s part of why I keep coming back. I used to help run cutting shows and I know its hard getting enough help – and as its great fun, I keep re-offending”
Julie describes her best moments at Adventurethon, “Getting the smiles from the competitors when you encourage them.( Definitely taking photos of all the hot guys with their shirts off (don’t put that in ))”
