ARE YOU READY FOR A CHALLENGE?

Press play!

ADVENTURETHONReturns

In response to popular demand Townsville returns to the standard Adventurethon Format again on 29th & 30th June, 2019.

Gear up for a full on, three discipline, race to test your stamina on the waters and tracks around Pallarenda in the Adventurethon National Challenge. Not just an event for the elite athletes, Adventurethon also caters to the whole family from juniors to first time adults and those seeking a bit more of a challenge. Paddle, run and ride courses are designed to provide you with the best experiences of the location and to throw in a little fun and adventure along the way. Course planning is underway to ensure a great experience for all participants.

Original Adventurethon is back! Yes, you no longer get to rest up between the different legs. Roll straight off your paddle craft and onto your mountain bike, then off your bike and start running. The only rests you get are the times you spend in transitions! This is a true test of stamina and could be quite daunting for some but don’t run away yet, we have options for all skill levels, even those that have never attempted and adventure course before. Make sensible choices and you’re guaranteed to have fun.

There will be plenty to keep the family from getting bored, even those that are not participating in the races, with plenty of food and drink available, BBQs for a picnic, and entertainment for the kids so why not make a day of it and bring the whole family to cheer the competitors on. This event will both challenge participants and expose them to one of the best locations around Townsville. Being based at Pallarenda allows us to design paddle courses to suit everyone and utilise some of the best mountain bike and trail run tracks in the region. Bike and run through a variety of different terrains to reach some spectacular views over coast and wetlands. Don’t run? But I bet you know someone that does! So, get them motivated and form a team of two or three, that way you won’t miss out on all the fun.

General information:

Explore the fantastic surrounds of Pallarenda as you race over the bay to the transition area at race HQ to collect your bike for an exhilarating journey through forested sections and open areas with expansive views. Various challenges await the rider from tricky technical sections (not overly difficult, some care is required if you are not an experienced mountain biker or trail runner) to fun little downhills. Close to all the amenities of Townsville, Pallarenda is a great place to start your weekend of fun and adventure.

Beginners and Juniors can choose to challenge themselves at the shorter and less technical Taste or Junior distance. More adventurous riders looking for a bigger challenge can ride the Enduro event, a shorter but no less technical version of the longest ride, the Ultra. For some participants this will be the first of three stages as they attempt to complete the Ultimate Adventurethon Demolish. Others will take a more leisurely approach and perhaps only tackle the mountain bike stage before heading off to spectate at the other events and get their kicks that way. Whatever approach you take we guarantee you will have a blast. You won’t get bored as you traverse different terrains and obstacles on this circuit course. A must visit for all mountain bikers so why not do it next October?

Format

There is a choice of distances to suit all comers, from the very beginners to elite athletes, so there is ample opportunity choose distances to suit your abilities and perhaps challenge yourself. Like a conventional triathlon, participants move directly from one discipline, through a transition zone and on to the next discipline until they have completed all three. First across the finish line to complete all three components (paddle, ride, run) wins the overall event, but being Adventurethon, we also recognise and reward age group winners as well as all those that complete the event. That’s right all finishers are awarded with a finishers medal.

If not competing why not head out and spectate so you get an appreciation of what is involved in adventure sports, but be careful, you might just get enthused and ‘wish you had been brave’ and had a go.
