ADVENTURETHONMURRAY BRIDGE

The fun and excitement of Adventurethon Demolish hits Murray Bridge again in 2020. Family fun + excitement + extraordinary locations + adventurous challenges are all on offer to you. Ride, Run (or walk) and paddle and abseil your way through some of the best locations in the beautiful Murray Bridge region of South Australia. This event will showcase some of the best and most spectacular scenery that the area has to offer.

We have some exciting news for Adventurethon Murray Bridge 2020. Not only have we secured the option to open the bridge abseil to everyone, we have removed the uncomfortably early start from the mountain bike stage. In place of the early ride around Monarto Safari Park, we have a more civilised start time of 5:00pm on the same day. Yep, when the zoo closes to the public we will remain there to enjoy our ride.

Start your weekend of fun, thrills and adventure with a paddle on the majestic Murray River. No white water (unfortunately for those enthusiasts) but there will be some awesome riverside scenery. Later the same day spice up your life with an exhilarating mountain bike ride among the animals of Monarto Safari Park.  Wake Sunday to some extraordinary trail running in the Kinchina Conservation Park. Here you can experience the truly beautiful scenery of the area as you tackle this superb cross country course alongside the Murray River.

Adventurethon Demolish will be a weekend of spectacular courses and amazing atmosphere. We can’t wait to share it with you.

The Murray Bridge Adventurethon Stage race event has been created to form 3 stand alone individual races at 3 stunning locations, with times that can be tallied together in a stage race format at the end to find an overall champion. However, it can also can be raced as a team, in pairs, or simply just attempt your favourite leg. The multiple locations allows you to see more amazing places, get your breath and re-energise between events and deliver your personal best for all disciplines.

Date: Saturday 28th March

Start Location: Woodlane Reserve, Murray Bridge

Finish Location: Sturt Reserve, Murray Bridge

Race start: 8:00 am

Compulsory race briefing: 7:45 am at Woodlane Reserve

Course description:

The Ultra course takes you on a scenic journey Down the Murray River, past some gorgeous hills and eventually paddling under the Original Murray Bridge. You should be able to paddle this course in any paddle craft (surf skis, TK1, K1, outrigger, Sup)

For the real adventurer, and greatest fun, the Ultra is your option with a surprise challenge before you finish.

In the event of unfavourable winds on race day we reserve the right to alter the course to an out and back from Sturt Reserve, Murray Bridge. We wouldn’t want you to be heading into the wind for the entire race!

Enduro (8 km)

Date: Saturday 28th March

Location: Sturt Reserve, Murray Bridge

Race start: 9:00 am

Compulsory race briefing: 8:45 am

Course description:

On this Enduro course you will make your way upstream to the picturesque turn marker however you will not want to stop there because the finish line is back where you came from! Hopefully the return ‘downhill’ journey back into town will be just as interesting and enjoyable as the first half. You should be able to paddle this course in any paddle craft

Taste & Junior (2 km)

Date: Saturday 28th March

Location: Sturt Reserve, Murray Bridge

Race start: 10:15 am

Compulsory race briefing: 10:00 am

Course description:

The Taste/Junior course is ideal for beginners and those with little paddling experience. It is also a great opportunity for parents to get out and have fun with their kids on a very ‘parent’ friendly (hint, hint) course. A short paddle upstream will bring you to a big yellow buoy around which you turn and return downstream to the finish. Too easy! You should be able to paddle this course in any paddle craft. (expect it to take between 15-30 mins depending on your kayaks speed and style)

Mountain BikeMonarto Zoo

Welcome to the MTB @ Monarto Safari Park – Adventurethon Demolish Murray Bridge – Stage 2.

Set around the Park’s tracks and dirt access roads, this course will allow you to be among first people to share a Mountain Bike ride with various wild animals in the largest open range Zoo in Australia (& one of the largest in the World outside Africa).

If you have been looking to put in some good personal performances maybe we can motivate you by getting you to ride in the enclosure with the lions… JUST JOKING, we aren’t riding through the lion enclosures but you will be riding in close proximity to some pretty awesome animals, as well as some of the friendlier ones.  Monarto Safari Park is one of the largest open-range zoos in the world spanning more than 1,500 hectares and home to more than 500 animals and 50 species of exotic and native mammals, birds and reptiles.

Monarto Safari Park is also has a breeding program for the Southern White Rhino, a species facing extinction in their native South Africa. The Park’s White Rhinos are part an “insurance” group of rhinos that scientists hope will keep the species going with the hope of repopulating their native lands on day. $10 from every adult MTB Entry and $5 from every Children’s entry will be returned to Monarto Safari Park to assist in continuing their crucial wildlife conservation programs.

Before the ride you are encouraged to take in more of the scenery with your friends and family by choosing an optional add on experience like the Lions 360 exhibition which may just give you that adrenaline rush we alluded to earlier. There are other optional Experiences on offer after the ride that fundraise for the Park. Participants wishing to explore the Park further before the ride will need to purchase an admission ticket to the Zoo, this will enable you to utilise the facilities including the fully guided loop shuttles, walking tracks and Keeper Talks.  Tickets can be pre-purchased on the following link  CLICK HERE

This ride is all about the wildlife and the famous landmark that is the Monarto Safari Park. The landscape and vegetation is modelled on the African Savannah in sections and will be a good mix between knowing you are in the Park but then also feeling like you are being transported to Africa in sections.

General information:

Beginners and Juniors can choose to challenge themselves at the beginner friendly Taste or Junior distance, not as challenging as the Ultra or Enduro rides but no less fun. More adventurous riders looking for a little more adventure might opt to undertake the Enduro event, a longer and more difficult distance with more obstacles to negotiate. For the real adventurer, and most fun, the Ultra is your option.

For some participants this will be part of of three stages as they attempt to complete the Ultimate Adventurethon Demolish. Others will take a more leisurely approach and perhaps only tackle one before heading off to spectate at the other events and get their kicks that way. Whatever approach you take we guarantee you will have a blast.

Monarto Safari Park is home to many of Africa’s most impressive animals and also one of Australia’s largest lion prides and giraffe herds. The zoo is located 60 minutes (70 kilometres) from South Australia’s capital city Adelaide and is the gateway to the picturesque Murraylands region. Monarto Safari Park opened in 1983 as a breeding and pasture area. Since officially opening to the public in October 1993, Monarto Safari Park is now home to more than 500 animals roaming in vistas as far as the eye can see. It’s an escape from the city that immerses visitors in a natural safari-style setting. Over the years Monarto has celebrated outstanding breeding success and our captivating, quirky and unique animals have captured the hearts of our visitors.

Monarto Zoo is owned and operated by a conservation charity, Zoos SA.

Ultra (40 km)

Start Location:  Monarto Safari Park (follow signs to parking and start areas)

Race start: 5:00 pm

Compulsory race briefing: 4:45 pm

Course description:

Some of you may be finishing in the dark so as a safety precaution please bring your lights. The Ultra course will take you through two exhilarating loops that explore different parts of the mountain bike course in the Monarto Safari Park, and onto some sweet, brand spanking new, single track. There will be 500 Animals and over 50 species on your ride, we will keep you away from the lions and keep you closer with the more friendly species. The trails are a mix of fast easy sections overlooking animal enclosures, paddocks interspersed with more technical winding challenges, and some single trail to keep you alert. Definitely not a race to miss so get in early to make sure you get a place as this wildlife experience is set to sell out fast.

Course will be fast and furious in sections so focus on some higher Wattage efforts in training…just imagine you are being chased by something in the Park! Probably best to practice your puncture repair skills as well so you are not such a sitting duck out there among the wildlife!

Courses will incorporate a range of service tracks and access roads/tracks within and adjacent to, the Park. Final course details will not be settled until the week prior to the event. This is because weather conditions and animal welfare considerations need to be addressed as late as possible. Needless to say we will provide you with a fascinating, exciting, and truly unique experience.

Format

Adventurethon Demolish has 3 different stages for you to choose from, RIDE; PADDLE; RUN.

The beauty of the DEMOLISH format is the opportunity to PICK AND CHOOSE events that appeal to you; for example, if you are an avid Mountain biker and can’t paddle, or find it hard to get a team together, you can just compete in the ride stage or add on the run stage to your schedule. Those that really want to challenge themselves are able to attempt all three stages to complete the ULTIMATE DEMOLISH.

Within each stage there are a choice of distances to suit all comers, from the very beginners to elite athletes, so there is ample opportunity to mix and match stages and distances to suit your abilities and perhaps challenge yourself.

Event stage times are designed to allow plenty of time for competitors and spectators to travel safely between stage locations so why not have a go at something new as well as take on disciplines you enjoy. If not competing in a stage why not head out and spectate so you get an appreciation of what is involved in other sports, but be careful, you might just get enthused and ‘wish you had been brave’.

Stage 1: Murray River Flow Saturday morning (28th March)

Stage 2: Mountain bike @ Monarto Safari Park Saturday afternoon (28th March)

Stage 3: Murray River Adventure Run Sunday morning (29th March)

location

All races will be in the region around Murray Bridge over the weekend of 28th & 29th March 2020. We have allowed sufficient time between races to allow you to easily transfer between race locations if you wish to compete in all 3 stages (Ultimate Demolish) or to spectate and see what great fun the competitors are having in the other disciplines.
