Reef Biologist for a day- PROGRAM FULL IN 24hrs
Wow we didn’t expect that ! we had a chat to Adam Smith from Reef Ecologic today and he has told us that the 15 spots for session 1 and 15 for session 2 are all full.
Although you may have missed out on this upcoming Reef Biologist for a Day Opportunity, we urge everyone to bring their snorkels along to the island and sample some of the great Snorkelling on Offer. ABOUT THE REEF BIOLOGIST FOR A DAY PROGRAM- Would you like to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park at Magnetic Island and be part of a reef research and rehabilitation project?.
Dr Adam Smith, a Director of Reef Ecologic is leading a research and stewardship program to increase the health of the coral reefs in the area. Adam is a also masters adventurethon competitor. Adam aims to lead by example, share knowledge and show you can mix sport, science and also help our reefs and planet.
What you will learn
– how research assists the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park
– scientific techniques to monitor underwater habitat
– the relationship between seaweed and coral
– safe snorkelling techniques
– what action you can do to help the reef
What you should bring
– stinger suit, gloves, snorkelling equipment, hat, sunscreen, water
(you can hire gear from Magnetic Island)
Minimum age 16 unless supervised by a parent.
There are 2 Groups available for the Magnetic Island Reef Recovery program
Group 1: Sunday 2 April 1:30-2:45pm
Group 2: Sunday 2 April 3:00-4:45pm
Location: Arthur Bay
