Athlete/Sponosr Profile – Alex O'Toole
When you think of Lawyers, you don’t typically think of fun and adventurous (or maybe that’s just me), so we were pleasantly surprised when the Connolly Suthers team joined Adventurethon as a Sponsor. To say they have embraced the adventurous would be an understatement. Here is a dedicated team of people who have thrown themselves into the fun that is Adventurethon, filling so many spots with teams in the Connolly Suthers Taste of Adventurethon that we know you will see them everywhere you turn on the course.
Getting to know some of the crew there is pretty cool. So we just wanted to share a little about a few of them.
Alex OToole
Alex is a long distance runner, having completed the New York City Marathon 3 times, as well as the Auckland, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and La Paz Bolivia half marathons (La Paz being in the top 10 highest cities in the world).
She has travelled extensively, visiting 37 countries so far. And planning to move overseas to live later in the year, possibly South Africa, depending on work. With a clear love of the outdoors and adventure, it is no surprise that if Alex could swap lives with any one person for an entire day she would choose Steve McCurry – photographer for National Geographic because of all the amazing things he sees.
Alex says, “I grew up travelling with my parents and then went solo backpacking in 2014 for 10 months. During this time I covered 21 countries. For me, the highlights were Morocco, Turkey, India, Bolivia, Uruguay and Brazil. I love Guatemala also but I went there on a separate trip”.
For fun or relaxation Alex can be found outdoors. She is pretty keen to master boxing and would really love to do a boxing match sometime. “I exercise a lot. I love the outdoors and running, bike riding, boxing or surfing. But I also like to eat out with friends and sit around the dinner table chatting with family. I will only read when I am on holiday – as I read alllllll day in the office”.
I participated in Adventurethon in the run leg last year – I loved the different terrain and the challenge of it. I started running with another girl who I had never met right from the start and we stayed together through the race and encouraged one another.”
Alex will be participating in the Connolly Suthers Taste of Adventurethon on March 20. You can find more info about Adventurethon at www.adventurethon.com.au
