Mountain bike adventures with Adventurethon

There are many people who just love to Ride for exercise or competition. Most people start on roads or pavement before discovering the fun of OFF ROAD riding and become hooked.

Mountain bike riding is going through a real boom phase in Australia but also worldwide as people are enjoying the benefits of nature, escaping the city/ concrete society and freeing their mind one step at a time. There are various styles of trail you can encounter based on the natural lay of the land and region it is set in and topography available. Mountain biking is mostly on formed trails managed by land management groups or Trail advocates and mountain bike-specific parks are to be found close to most major population areas these days.

Adventurethon (hey that’s us) deliver mountain bike races as part of our Multisport Stage races. Our Stage races allow participants to engage in just one event stage, i.e. you can participate in the MTB stage, without needing to participate in any other stages of the event. Each of the events listed below has a Long (Ultra) course, Medium (Enduro) and Short (Taste/Junior) mountain bike Course.

We have distances and courses to suit all fitness and experience levels. Each of the events listed below has a Long (Ultra) course, Medium (Enduro) and Short (Taste/Junior) run course. Long courses vary between 30 – 50 km depending on terrain, medium 20 – 35 km, and Short 8 – 15 km.

We aim to provide you with the best possible MTB courses in each of our scenic event locations.

East Gippsland, VIC

The mountain bike course takes you on some sweet loops of the wonderful Mt Taylor mountain bike park. Mostly single track with linking fire roads on relatively friendly surfaces. Technical problems are confined to the Ultra and Enduro courses and there are ‘B’ lines for the less experienced rider to avoid the more difficult obstacles.

Murray Bridge, SA

This course is a real ripper! Set around the service and public tracks of Monarto Open Range Zoo so you get to see lots of wildlife as you travel over a mix of well-trodden and easy tracks. Minimal technical difficulty so this is a ride to suit all abilities. Ultra (long course) riders will also get to roll through some awesome new single track adjacent to the Zoo as part of your course.

Kalbarri, WA

Awesome Kalbarri tracks are a mix of gravel surfaces, rock shelves and station and cattle tracks. A real outback adventure alongside the Murchison River. This unique course is on private property so the only opportunity you get to ride it is during our event.

Townsville, QLD

Townsville courses cover a large variety of terrain including rocky technical climbs and descents (Ultra and Enduro only) as you circulate around the coastline and wetlands, mostly on sweet single tracks. The Taste/Junior course is a flat circuit around the wetlands of the town common on easy gravel tracks so is ideal for first timers. Even in June Townsville can seem hot to southerners so be prepared.

Charters Towers, QLD

An outback Adventure ride that takes you along sandy four wheel drive tracks alongside the Burdekin River. This ride is part of a sprint event so involves paddling in the river and trail running as well. The short course here is a perfect one for any runner wanting to have a go at a real adventure. Paddle is short and easy (no waves or white water) and the trail run course is flat and enjoyable with no technical challenges.

Clarence Valley, NSW

In the Clarence Valley we send our mountain bikers out on a wonderful course around the Bom Bom State Forest. Courses here are on single track with some short sections of connecting gravel road. Single track is sandy gravel but pretty well packed down with few technical obstacles and ‘B’ lines for the less experienced riders. Fast in places with small hills to slow your progress and although short, hills are not steep.
