Volunteer Spotlight – Steve & Val Davies
We all know that any great event can’t work without the support of great people. And on this National Volunteers Week we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge how much we appreciate each and every person who volunteers for us. Every volunteer makes a difference to the competitors on the day, with a friendly smile, or helping keep them on track and safe and so much more.
Volunteer Spotlight – Steve & Val Davies
Event Location – Albany – Western Australia
At 62 and 67 years of age you might be forgiven for looking for the couch on the weekend to chill out, but Steve & Val are regularly out on their mountain bikes on the Munda Biddi Trail (& road bikes too for Steve) and always put their hand up to volunteer and be involved at Adventurethon Albany.
Steve says they love the Adventurethon in Albany partly because it’s their home town and the varying terrain and have been involved since 2013.
The main draw to keep volunteering at Adventurethon is to give back time for those that compete in the Junior and Short Events on the Sunday, with Steve competing on the Saturday. Helping with set up of the course before the event is fun and rewarding. The people involved, the fun and feedback from competitors keeps bringing us back.
Steve says one of his best volunteering moments is watching parents doing, encouraging and competing with their kids. (We also love that about Adventurethon – from the team).
You should definitely get involved with volunteering there are some great friendships that can be established.
