Why?
Some thoughts from Ross, one of our Adventurethon Team Members
People often ask me why I take on physical challenges that seem unnecessary. Those that know me will be aware that I applaud efforts outside people’s comfort zones and promote two philosophies; enjoy where you are when undertaking challenges and test your boundaries. This video is not about a challenge within the scope of everyday people, but the ideas about risk, enjoyment, effort and focus typify how I feel when I’m out there pushing my boundaries. The video is long by some peoples attention spans but I ask you to stay with it and carefully digest the words while viewing the spectacular images.
Some of you may also be aware that depression has been part of my life for a few years and my most successful treatment has been the challenge and focus associated with finding my true boundaries. Comfort zones promote false boundaries that we frequently and ‘unnecessarily’ cling to; therein lies the answer to the initial question of why. I guess it can be summed up by two quotes I frequently use; ‘Life begins at the edge of your comfort zone’, and, ‘If it doesn’t challenge you it won’t change you’. You are the only person that can change yourself, so if you don’t see scope for personal improvement, I guess you would see my efforts as unnecessary. I feel sad for you, but challenge and risk are never unnecessary to me, they enrich my life.
LOHTSE …….. Enjoy the spectacle
Ross.
