Athlete Profile – Jimmy Hilton

Today’s athlete profile: Jimmy Hilton. Keep an eye out – more athlete stories to follow.
jimmy hilton port douglas marathonJimmy Hilton might not be as well known as some of our other competitors, but his results speak for them self. In 2014 Jimmy won the Port Douglas Running Festival Marathon, beating his childhood hero Steve Moneghetti by a mere 30 metres, and won the iconic Cairns race – Walsh’s Pyramid. He’s lightning fast on his feet and just loves to be active. We can’t wait to see what he can do over the Adventurethon trails on Magnetic Island.

Where do you feel your strengths lie?
The run is my strongest leg followed by the bike. I might make a good paddler one day just gotta learn to stay on the ski.
Who inspires you to push yourself?
My wife and 2 awesome kiddo’s and training partner Tilly (dog). What more inspiration do you need!
Describe the atmosphere on Magnetic Island during race weekend?
I’m a virgin Maggie Adventurethoner but looking forward to the experience and a few cheeky beers after the race.
Where do you live and play?
I live up on a hill near Mossman,  5hrs north of Townsville. Have 60 acres with some cows and rainforest, keeps me busy. I work in the local Hospital and when I get a chance hit the beach on kite, ski or fishing when ever I can!
How important is your support crew to achieving your goals?
Honestly, I couldn’t do it without my Family/Support crew
What does your race day breakfast look like?
I’m not superstitious when it comes to race day breakfast. Generally I eat what ever I can get my hands on that morning. Probably 1/2 dozen wheat bix.
What’s the one piece of equipment that goes with you to every race and why?
My pants, it’s just not a good look without them! Then probably Zinc cream on my face!
What piece of advice would you give someone attempting their first Adventurethon?
Just get out have fun and enjoy it!
